| The
village of Radium Hot Springs (pop: 705), nestled between
the Purcell and Rocky Mountain ranges, has long been known
as the "warmer side of the rockies" and is a renowned
destination for all types of vacationers.
Sacred to the Natives, treasured by many European settlers
the Radium
Hot Springs has been a therapeutic destination for generations.
Set in a spectacular canyon setting, the springs has been
a natural draw from the first small pool scooped out of the
gravel to today's developed facility. It is believed that
the water is therapeutic, particularly for arthritis sufferers,
and is definitely soothing and relaxing for everyone. There
are also over 200 Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep that like to
frequently spend their time in the Village of Radium Hot Springs.
They can often be seen grazing in the village from late autumn
to mid-spring.
The
Columbia Valley
Along with the Hot Springs the Columbia Valley is an ideal
base for a vast variety of recreational activities. The valley
boasts eight 18 - hole courses and six 9 - hole courses all
surrounded by awe-inspiring wilderness. A float down the Columbia
River, the longest continuous wetlands in North America, will
give you the chance to see over 250 species of birds such
as the great blue heron. The vast network of local streams,
glacier fed rivers and pristine mountain lakes all offer great
adventures for canoers, kayakers and anglers alike.
For bikers, hikers, and climbers several fantastic parks are
located in this area: Kootenay National Park, Bugaboos Provincial
Park, Assiniboine Provincial Park, Height of the Rockies Wilderness
Area and the Purcell Wilderness Conservancy all await your
discovery of their vast breathtaking terrain.
Located a short 16 km drive from Radium is the picturesque
town of Invermere. Which offers sandy beaches, dependable
breezes and miles of open water from nearby Lake Windermere
a haven for swimmers, sailors and sun bathers. A few hours
can easily be spent exploring the charm of downtown Invermere
with its numerous coffee houses and local arts & gift
